Dementia carers and new opportunities

The Mental Health Foundation is staging a project to find out why more people with dementia and their carers are not taking up new opportunities to take control of their care and treatment.

But it is seeking help from organisations willing to take part in the initiative after evidence emerged of a low uptake of provision under the 2008 Health & Social Care Act, which gave an estimated 580,000 people with dementia in England and opportunity to choose their own care using direct payments.
