A recent Social Care Sector report from Kevin Green, Chief Executive of the REC, and Peter Cullimore, REC Nursing and Social Care Group Chairman delivered vital information for professionals working in the healthcare markets, giving the answers to strategic business questions within the topics of Market Profile, Workforce Profile, Issues and Challenges for Employers, and Employer Characteristics.
One of the important findings refers to the level of candidate satisfaction. In a sector where staff shortages are one of the key challenges, the focus on candidate satisfaction cannot be overestimated.
The research shows that 85% of workers in this sector are fairly or very satisfied, including 72% of workers who are fairly or very satisfied with their pay. However, 13% of workers expressed their wish to see the agency provide them with more training, a number that is double the number across other sectors.
In recent years, various initiatives were aimed at raising the level of training, not least the latest scheme mentioned by the Chancellor in this year’s budget.
As the Government’s policy aim is for people to receive care in their homes for as long as possible, home and personal care have become more complex, raising the need for qualifications such as NVQ levels 2 and 3 and apprenticeships.
