The baby boomers arrive..
- 0 Comments... What do you have to say?
As the large crop of Baby Boomers age, the need for health workers has increased dramatically and will continue to increase in future years.
This need is not only found in the UK, but in other countries throughout the world. As a result, the healthcare industry continues to increase its workforce. Healthcare now represents about 9.3 % of the UK gross domestic product (GDP) and is continually rising.
The opportunities are great and plentiful in the sector
Whilst most people are aware of the critical need for primary care physicians, physician assistants and nursing staff, many do not realise the shortage in the allied health professionals such as respiratory care practitioners, medical transcriptionists, radiographers and lab technicians. Those with the highest projected need include physical therapist assistants, dental hygienists, and pharmacy technicians. Registered nurses were one of the growth areas with the highest employment gains in 2008, whilst physician specialists and dental specialists were among the highest paid; but the most needed were support workers and carers.
The most needed..
Above all the opportunities and the need for healthcare assistants and support workers is the greatest, ranging from occupations in residential homes, nursing homes and private hospitals through to the hugh domiciliary care requirement.
For the mid-career worker who may have lost their job due to downsizing in the current recession training to enter the healthcare sector where the employment demand is high represents a brilliant opportunity.
